The objective of this standard is to ensure standardization of Work Place Color Code used relating to Mandatory Health and Safety Requirements, General Safety Information, Warning of Hazards, Fire Extinguishing Information and Prohibitive Notices.

SCOPE

The scope of this standard is all operations of the Company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Health and Safety Staff

Are to ensure that a survey is carried out to determine the need regarding signs, notices and color coding, and report to the Health and Safety Committee.

Building Work and Machinery Supervisor

Are to ensure that all Health and Safety Signs are adhered to and all color coding requirements for gas and other pipelines are complied with.

Field Supervisor

To ensure that all employees who operate under their control comply with all the requirements of this standard.

Employees

Are to, at all times, obey Health and Safety Signs and are to work strictly to the procedures regarding work on live or potentially live plant or equipment, and must be familiar with the Color Coding that is applicable to the work they are doing.

COLOR CODING

All signs and notices on the Project to indicate mandatory Health and Safety requirements, unless of the symbolic type complying with the relevant British Standard or equivalent.

All signs and notices used on the Project to give general Health and Safety related information, unless of the symbolic type complying with the relevant British Standard or equivalent must be green letters with a white background.

All signs and notices used on the Project to warn persons of hazards, unless of the symbolic type complying with the relevant British Standard or equivalent must be black letters on a yellow background.

Black and yellow chevrons must indicate any general warning of bump or trip hazards.

All signs and notices used to indicate the location of Fire Extinguishing Equipment or other information relating specifically to fire must, unless of the symbolic type complying with the relevant British Standard or Equivalent be red letters on a white background.

Floor demarcation, where used must be substantial yellow lines.

Electrical control panel (temporary), distribution boards etc. must be painted orange or appropriate symbolic safety sign displayed.

Refuse bins used on the Project must be painted yellow.

For pipes used to convey gas, air and/or fluids the relevant British Standard Specification or equivalent shall be used.
